What is Inclusive Employment Australia?

IEA is the Australian Government’s new specialist disability employment program. It takes over from the Disability Employment Services (DES) program from 1 November 2025.

It supports people with disability, injury or health conditions. This now includes those who can only work a few hours per week and people who aren’t getting income support from Services Australia.

More flexible, tailored support

Instead of “one size fits all,” IEA will give you help that fits your situation. If you need more help to get ready for work, there are intensive supports available to you. We can also work with you at your own pace to help you achieve your employment goals.

No time limit on support

Under IEA, there’s no strict time limit on your support services. You can stay with Breakthru for as long as you need.

More choice and control

You’ll be able to choose your service provider, and providers are expected to respond more to what you want and need.

For employers too

IEA also aims to help employers. It offers guidance to hire inclusively, make workplaces accessible, provides ongoing support and training, and there are are incentives like wage subsidies in some cases.

How Breakthru will support you

Clients

We’ll start by having a real conversation about what you want, what you’re good at, and what might be getting in the way. From there, we’ll put together a Personalised Employment Support Plan (PESP) that’s clear, practical, and built around you.

Your plan might include:

  • Help with job searching, writing resumes, and preparing for interviews
  • Work experience and training opportunities
  • Support with health or personal challenges that make work harder
  • Short courses to grow your skills
  • Connections with employers who value inclusion

Our role is to give you the support you need, when you need it, and to make sure you feel confident as you move toward the kind of work you want.
