Free, flexible support designed for children and young people up to 18 years old who may be facing the risk of mental health challenges.
Through access to a range of early intervention and education services, FMHSS strengthens and supports families across all communities, including those from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, migrant, refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds.
When mental health issues are emerging in children or behaviours are becoming a concern you can call Breakthru for support.
FMHSS is a Government-funded program dedicated to enhancing mental well-being for children, adolescents, and their families.
FMHSS offers prompt support to young individuals and children experiencing or at risk of developing mental health issues
This program aims to provide support in the following areas:
Comprehensive and Ongoing Early Intervention:
This includes recognizing and evaluating specific needs, delivering hands-on aid and support within the home environment, connecting with other support services, and participating in therapeutic group activities.
Brief Immediate Help for Families:
This encompasses evaluating needs, offering information or directing to other resources, and providing limited support as necessary.
Outreach and Education within the Community: This involves arranging and engaging in community gatherings, and conducting general group work within the community. These actions aim to spread mental health awareness and foster community development.
Any family with children currently experiencing or at risk of developing mental health conditions should reach out to access FMHSS. Highest priority is given to:
• vulnerable children
• young people and their families including those from Indigenous or culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
