Breakthru Merge with Royal Rehab

Monday, 29 November 2021

Today Breakthru announced that it has merged with Royal Rehab, a leading not-for-profit provider of rehabilitation and disability support services.

With a combined 26 locations and 1,300+ staff, the merger will provide thousands of Australians — including many in regional areas — with more opportunities to access industry-leading disability and rehabilitation services.

By coming together as one organisation, Breakthru customers will have the opportunity to access additional services including neurological, cardiac, and orthopaedic rehabilitation services, supported independent living and specialist disability accommodation.

In addition, Breakthru customers will also gain access to cutting-edge therapies that utilise the latest rehabilitation technology such as robotics, virtual reality and more.

Customers will also have the opportunity to access bespoke disability support services, mental health supports and employment services in locations across New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria. Nationally recognised training will also be available for aspiring disability support workers, aged care workers, allied health assistants and mental health professionals.

According to Breakthru General Manager Judi Higgin, “By bringing together our shared skills and expertise we will enable improved access to a wider range of services and supports, which will ultimately enhance opportunities and life outcomes for thousands of people across Australia.

‘’By joining forces, our customers will be provided the opportunity to access better technology and clinical services, which is particularly valuable for many people in our regional and rural locations. Merging also allows us to complement Royal Rehab’s existing rehabilitation facilities with our employment and training services, taking us one step closer to our vision of seamless inclusion for people with disability.”

Matt Mackay, Chief Executive Officer of Royal Rehab, said “We are excited to bring together the vast experience and expertise of both organisations to break down barriers and enable Australians with disability to access a wider range of services. This will provide more choice and allow individuals to build a range of holistic supports to meet their specific needs. At the heart of this merger, is our purpose — to empower people living with illness, injury or disability to achieve their potential.”

The organisations will bring together a combined 146 years of experience, specialist skills and expertise in the rehabilitation and disability support sectors. The merger will enable both Breakthru and Royal Rehab to share in training, upskilling and research opportunities for the 1,300+ employees across both organisations, positively contributing to the health care and community services sectors.

Breakthru will now operate as a subsidiary of Royal Rehab under the Bbreakthru brand
