Inclusive Employment Australia (IEA) is taking over from the Disability Employment Services (DES) program as of November 1st 2025.
It continues the same goal as DES: to support people with disabilities, injuries, or health conditions in finding and maintaining work. It also expands access to include people who may be able to work only a few hours each week or who are not receiving income support from Services Australia.
There are several eligibility requirements a job seeker must meet in order to access the IEA scheme.
You may be eligible for the IEA if you:
*This is not applicable for Ongoing Support (Work Assist) participants, supported employment undertaken by National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants, and/or participants in the Disability Employment Continuity of Support program.
If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can access Inclusive Employment Australia (IEA) through a referral from Services Australia or by registering directly with Breakthru. When you visit a Services Australia office, you may be asked to complete an ESAt, if you haven’t already.
An Employee Services Assessment (ESAt) is an assessment of the impact of your disability, illness, injury, and non-vocational barriers on work capacity and employment. It also determines how many hours per week you can consistently work and what kind of support you may need to maintain that level.
The assessment is conducted by an allied health professional from Services Australia (also known as Centrelink).
To access an IEA provider such as Breakthru, a valid ESAt is required. If you need help taking your ESAt or have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. Further information is also available on the Employment Services Assessments page on the Services Australia website.
No. You do not need to disclose any information about your disability or health.
However, if you would like to, our team can help you share the information. We can also help you request any workplace adjustments you may need.
Our team at Breakthru is here to help. If you would like to change IEA providers, simply reach out to our team, and we’ll guide you through the steps.
The Australian Government fully fund the IEA program, so job seekers do not have to worry about cost.
