At Tyrex Newcastle, the mornings start early. There’s the steady sound of tools, plenty of teamwork, and a lot of friendly faces. It’s a place where hard work matters, but so do the people behind it.
Among the team are two Breakthru IEA participants, Jayden and Ky. Their journeys show what can happen when the right support meets the right opportunity.
Through the Inclusive Employment Assistance program, both Jayden and Ky were supported to build confidence, develop practical workplace skills and step into meaningful employment. With guidance from their employment support team and encouragement from their co-workers, they have grown not only in their roles, but in themselves..

Jayden's journey
After finishing school, Jayden wasn’t sure what direction to take. Like many young people, he faced that uncertain space between education and employment, not quite knowing what came next.
With support from the Breakthru team, Jayden worked on building his résumé and preparing for interviews. Those early steps helped lay the foundation for his opportunity at Tyrex.
Now, two years into his role, Jayden has found his rhythm. He enjoys the work, values the friendships he has built and feels part of the team. His confidence has grown significantly since starting, and that growth has extended beyond the workplace. He has travelled overseas and embraced new experiences that once may have felt out of reach.
“I’m glad I found this job; it’s rewarding and yeah, it’s great,” Jayden says.

Ky's Journey
Ky joined Tyrex almost a year ago. After finishing school, he was unsure about his next steps and needed support to find his pathway.
Breakthru worked closely with him to strengthen his résumé and build the confidence needed to start working more independently. He began with just a few hours each week, gradually settling into the workplace and developing his skills.
When Ky first started, he found it difficult to talk to people and connect socially. Over time, however, he has blossomed, becoming more confident and outgoing.
Nearly a year on, Ky now works two full eight-hour days each week, with plans to increase to three days next year. His growth has been steady and well earned.
For Ky, the highlight of working at Tyrex is the friendships he has made. Being part of the team has helped him open up, feel comfortable being himself, and enjoy a genuine sense of belonging that has made a real difference in his life.

A big part of Jayden and Ky’s journey at Tyrex has been the support of their Operations Manager, Troy. With five years at Tyrex, starting as a production worker and rising to Operations Manager, Troy brings both experience and a strong, inclusive approach to his role. His team already includes staff with similar backgrounds to Jayden and Ky, which helps create a supportive environment.
Troy introduced both boys through trial shifts, starting with shorter, casual hours one or two days a week, and emphasizes the importance of ongoing support throughout their employment. He also enjoys sharing Tyrex’s opportunities at Expos, highlighting the company’s ability to provide meaningful work, above-award wages, and pathways to success.
Believing that everyone deserves the chance to live their best life, Troy values Tyrex’s partnership with Breakthru in helping people access inclusive employment. For him, the most rewarding part of his work is seeing the impact Tyrex has on people’s lives, whether helping employees reach their full potential or providing solutions for those with mobility challenges.
Jayden and Ky describe Troy as a great leader who backs his team and fosters a supportive work environment. In turn, Troy says the boys have been a fantastic addition to the team. His advice to other employers is simple: “Be patient and the rewards will come.”
