Breakthru Dubbo unveil modern inclusive space for people with disability

Earlier this month we had the pleasure of unveiling our revamped Dubbo hub with a fresh and accessible new look, much to the excitement of the local community.

The upgraded facility, which underwent significant renovations in recent months, boasts modern and convenient features such as automatic entrances, wheelchair accessible kitchen facilities, new appliances, accessible bathroom fixtures, and adjustable height furniture throughout.

In addition to the physical upgrades, Breakthru has also invested heavily in revitalising its technology, with new computers and high-speed internet setup to assist people with disability to develop their digital skills and find employment.

According to CEO Matt Mackay, “These renovations demonstrate our commitment to improving the services and supports available to people with disability across Dubbo and the broader Western NSW region.

Our goal has always been to empower people with disability to achieve higher levels of independence, and providing a space like this is designed to help members of our community feel comfortable and included, which goes a long way toward achieving that goal.

Mayor of the Dubbo Region Mathew Dickerson congratulated the Breakthru team for the work they have done within the community. “Breakthru provides a great service to our region. The renovations to their office, including new accessible entrances, kitchen facilities, bathrooms and technology, have been designed to better support the people they work with every day. Having this service within the Local Government Area is an asset for our community.”

With renovations finalised and the facility new officially reopen, Breakthru customers have been increasingly excited to see what has become of their old stomping grounds. One long-standing Breakthru customer Sarah said, “I’m so excited! Everything is so new and fresh, there is heaps more room and colour throughout the whole space. I can’t wait to hang out with my friends in the new hub!”

The grand re-opening event was hosted on Friday, March 3, 2023, and was celebrated with a traditional welcome to country and smoking ceremony delivered by Uncle Ralph Naden OAM.
